Atlanta Cares Stemfest Youth Conference and Georgia Geography!
On November 29, 2014, over 300 students and parents came together at Georgia Tech to participate in Atlanta Cares’ third annual STEMfest youth conference. Middle and high school students participated in hands-on activities promoting the science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) fields. Student sessions included 3D-printing , zoology, and programming. The parents also participated in sessions on college prep and academic solutions. The Georgia Geographic Alliance also attended and helped map kindness with students, as well as, their parents and siblings through the People Loving People Mapping Project. We also assisted NEXT Steps Youth Entrepreneur Program, Inc. in the geocaching session. The students also made a large latitude and longitude grid on the floor and learned how to navigate the grid. In this way, the children acquired the basics on reading the coordinate system many use for reading and using the globe.
What a great event, Georgia Geography rules!
