The Georgia Geographic Alliance hosted its first BioBlitz on May 21, 2016. The day focused on finding and identifying as many species as possible at Clyde Shepherd Nature Preserve in Decatur, GA. The event hosted hikes led by scientists ranging in topics like geology to herpetology to macro-invertebrates and activity tables ran by our amazing partners – Trees Atlanta, US Forest Service, Bill Witherspoon & Pam Gore of Roadside Geology of Georgia, Atlanta Herpetology Club, Shady Brook Sheep, Clyde Shepherd Nature Preserve – and by GGA itself, of course! We taught so many kids and adults how to use iNaturalist (and it’s been so much fun seeing our observations being edited and commented on by scientists and citizen scientists from all over the world!). We got a little wet during a brief storm at noon and then enjoyed the sun shine for the rest of the day! A special thanks to our workers, partners, volunteers, participants, and Chai Pani & Wild Heaven Brewery for donating some end of the day refreshments! Check out the album on Facebook and also iNaturalist to see all of our findings!
