200 School Children Reach New Heights with Drones on Tybee Island!
Over 200 school children experienced drones on Tybee Island. On Thursday, November 20th as part of Geography Awareness Week and as part of The Georgia Geographic Alliance’s first “Reaching New Heights with Drones” educational activity, Dr. Hawthorne visited around 200 spirited and inquisitive children at the Tybee Island Maritime Academy in southeast Georgia to fly a Phantom 2 quadcopter drone.
The students learned about drone mapping, satellite imagery, and the opportunities for drone careers. We talked about everything from pizza delivery with drones, Amazon drone package delivery, and drones for humanitarian purposes. The students asked several questions, including how high a drone can fly, how much it costs, and about the different uses for drones.
