Eco Expedition and Rock ‘n Walk

On Saturday, March 10, GGA teamed up with the Department of Geosciences at Georgia State University to identify bugs, birds, plants, rocks and more around Stone Mountain as part of our annual EcoExpedition and Rock ‘n Walk. We explored the area with kids, parents, teachers, citizens, and scientists to identify any organism we could find while learning about the geological history and importance of the mountain that was formed millions of years ago by magma. We had the Giant Traveling Map to explore geography across the state and visitors studied skulls from animals of the Piedmont region to learn about biology as well. We colored maps, explored natural landscapes, hiked up the mountain, and had fun learning.
